For short-term benefits, people in Indonesia burn down large areas of forested areas to make way for more arable land, not realising the toxic and harmful gases that they are releasing into the atmosphere...
Now we are paying the price for their foolishness, with haze levels exceeding healthy levels and a host of respiratory problems for us humans...
Perhaps this is divine retribution from the heavens for all our sins and crimes...
No matter, this is the only planet that the Higher being has given us to live in, we have to make do with it and try to handle whatever adversity that comes our way, no matter natural or man-made...
